St Francis Fountain opened in 1918 when the Mission was predominately Irish. It closed in 2002 when it had become predominately Hispanic/Asian/Hipster. It reopened in 2002 by new owners balancing respect for the past and updating it for the present. Nifty look and feel outside and in of a classic soda fountain with counter stools, tables and booths. In addition to the usual diner fare and nods to veganism, they have a good variety of Mexican specials and classic ice cream fountain choices.
